do you dare to go screen free for a week
The first week of May is screen free week, does that make you excited to see what you could get up to with your family or a little panicky about having less time with your devices?
the age old question
The debate on how much screen time children and young people should have access to a long running one that will never be won. Your choices depend on what is right for you and your family and that can change at different points along the journey.
Screen Free Week is a yearly invitation to play, explore and rediscover the world outside of your screen.
Started in 1994 by Henry Labalme and Matt Pawa, it was originally called TV Turnoff Week and with the changing nature of social media and the devices we have access to, it was changed to Screen-Free Week in 2010.
make a pledge
Communities, families, and organisations all over the world, take the week to connect with each other, the natural world and have a different kind of fun.
Hosted by Fairplay, you can now take a pledge together with your friends and family to be screen-free for the first week of May and when you do, you’ll receive tips, ideas, and inspiration for fun things to get up to.
You can make the pledge suit you by deciding what times will be screen-free. That could be no screens at mealtimes, you could sign out of all your social media platforms for the week or put away all devices for the whole 7 days and see what happens.
It’s up to you and it can be as fun as you let it be.
Do you have books you’ve been meaning to read or board games which have gotten dusty on the shelves? This is a great catalyst for you to make changes you have already been thinking about and create even more fun family memories for the future.
