In the heart of Bournemouth city centre, overlooking the beach, is Russell Cotes, the home of a beautiful museum, gallery, and gardens. The house was a gift from Merton Russell-Cotes to his wife, Annie for her birthday. The couple filled the seaside villa with beautiful objects from their extensive world travels. The stunning building showcases sculptures, canvases of gigantic proportions as well as furniture, and treasures of all kinds from Asia and Africa.

Take your children on an exploration with a theme and count the fairies or the mythological creatures. Get inspired by the art and take a pencil and sketch book along to create your own.

Explore the ever-changing exhibitions of art, take part in the many activity days specifically designed for families, or take a moment away from the busyness of Bournemouth with a slice of delicious cake in the beautiful café or seated on the balcony. The garden is a shady oasis of calm with hidden gems to seek out and admire and as our young reviewers said,
“I love it here, there is always something new to see!”
“My favourite is the Japanese room; I love the samurai swords.”
Our top tip for a visit to this wonderful house? Don’t forget to look up, the ceilings are something you won’t want to miss. The one in the Morning Room was definitely our favourite.
