It's been seven years since the release of the original Nintendo Switch, and three years since the OLED version hit stores. We think it's safe to assume the new Nintendo Switch - dubbed the Nintendo Switch 2 - is just around the corner and likely to release in 2024.
Best selling console of all time
There is no disputing the popularity of the Switch. It’s the third best-selling console of all time behind the Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS. It’s a hybrid console that can either be used as a portable device or docked for home console use. Some of the most popular gaming titles have been released on Switch, with some only available to play on the console like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Despite their being no official announcement from Nintendo yet about the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, recent rumours point to a possible autumn 2024 release window (the same time we also expect the PS5 Pro to launch too). A series of Capcom developers have mentioned new hardware in 2024, and some even quoted that “Nintendo’s platform has been the focus of much attention. Along with the Devs at Capcom, on the 2nd January 2024, hashtag #NintendoSwitch2 was trending on X, signalling the interest in the new console rising, and new leaks being discovered.
