Katie Gregson-MacLeod Tips for success on tiktok

In 2022 Scottish star, the singer-songwriter Katie Gregson-MacLeod woke up to a whole new world when she found out a 45-second clip of her singing her song Complex had gone viral overnight on TikTok. A month later she had signed a record deal with Columbia Records and the year since then has been a whirlwind.
A Dream come true.
It is every young performer’s dream to be plucked from a mundane life of going to university while working in a coffee shop, and transported to a world in which you share a label with Adele and your new friends include Lewis Capaldi.
And now the surreal journey is continuing as Katie finds herself competing against Harry Syles, Tom Odell and Florence and the Machine for best song at the Ivor Novello awards which are taking place on May 18th.
The Ivors

The Ivors, as they are known, are awards presented to British and Irish songwriters and screen composers and have been going since 1956. Some of the huge names which have received the hand-crafted Ivor Novello statuette include Adele, Stormzy, Amy Winehouse, Dave, Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It’s definitely a long way from Katie’s bedroom as she recorded a quick TikTok post on evening for a song she had only written a few days before.
In her own words
Speaking to Newsbeat recently about her journey so far, Katie offered this advice to all young people hoping to break into the music industry using social media platforms,
‘For me, TikTok was a chance for me to put my work out there in a way that was able to reach far more people than I’d ever dreamed of in Inverness. It really means that anyone can have that moment, which is lovely. TikTok is something that will hopefully boost it (your work) but there has to be something there to boost and you can’t change who you are for the internet.’
And we couldn’t agree more, so, keeping writing, keep creating and working on getting better at your craft and then who knows where you’ll be a year from now.
